Projects

The Special Populations & Issues Interest group is currently involved in the following projects:

Creating a new website and collaborative online space:

We have a new website underway and will soon say goodbye to our old site, which was graciously hosted by the Colorado State Library.  We will also bid a fond farewell to our Grouply ning in the near future as members begin to collaborate on the new WordPress site, hosted by Colorado Virtual Library!

Helping Colorado Virtual Library populate its Tools for Tough Times online resource:

Because our group hopes to reach out to library staff working with diverse populations all over the state, who better to assist Colorado Virtual Library in compiling a list of agencies that assist Colorado job seekers?

Supporting group members’ Return to Reading program:

Several members of our group have been holding read-aloud book circles for low-literacy elders.  They’ve drummed up library and school partners, and even applied for an LSTA grant this year!  The Special Populations & Issues Interest Group is proud to support continued work on this program.

Developing and providing online and in-person diversity training:

One of the goals of this group is to provide diversity training to library staff across the state.  We want to be the place to go for information on how libraries can best serve the populations in their communities.

 Updating our expert resource list:

Most members of our group had a particular population in mind when they signed up.  Many of us know just who to contact, what books are available, and which strategies to use that will benefit those populations we’ve worked with.  It’s been too long since our list has been updated, and there are definitely experts we haven’t identified yet!
